The Mongolian horse is the native horse breed of Mongolia. The breed is purported to be largely unchanged since the time of Genghis Khan. Nomads living in the traditional Mongol fashion still hold more than 3 million animals, which outnumber the country's human population. Despite their small size, they are horses, not ponies.
Western Part of Mongolia - Eternally snow-capped peaks of the Altai and Khangai Mountain Ranges and pure lakes and rivers and the forest zone of Zavkhan, Uvs, and Bayan-Olgii aimags.
The national park “Khorgo” was protected in 1965 and consisted of Khorgo extinct volcano, Terkh white lake, high Rocky and spectacular Mountains, scenery and endangered species of flora & fauna. It's surrounded by the Khangai Mountains, which reach as 3000 meters above the sea level. The most area of the National park is covered by poplar and peach forest, where grow wild berries, rare herbs and great variety of berries and flowers.
The traditional dress of the Mongols has a rich history spanning many centuries. It is closely connected with the Mongolian way of life and the country. The costumes are used in different situations; somebody rides on horseback over the steppe, he sits at home in his ger (yurt - round felt tent), or he dances at a national festival.
This was an amazing visual spectacle held 3 times a week between July – Sep, 2008 (60km from Ulaanbaatar city). A cloud of dust slowly emerges from the distant grasslands, opening a 2-hour historical spectacle that will amaze you. 500 soldiers, mounted on horseback and dressed in ancient military costumes, are armed with swords and shields march past you, raising the spectre of Mongolia's most famous son.
The biggest festival of the Mongolian year is the Naadam Festival celebrated in Mongolia nationwide on July 11-13. Naadam is properly know as “Eryn gurvan naadam”, after the three manly games of wrestling, horse racing, and archery making up the core activities of the National Festival. Mongolians love to dress in their best traditional costumes and riding on their most beautiful horses during Naadam
