Capital and largest city of Mongolia, located on the bank of the Tuul River and surrounded by four sacred mountains Bogd khan, Bayanzurkh, Songinokhairkhan and Chingeltei mountains with dense pine forests on the northern slopes and grassy steppes on the south.

Among the world’s capital cities, Ulaanbaatar is notable as the capital city located at the highest altitude (1350m) with the coldest climatic conditions.  The city is 345 km inland from the north border Altanbulag (with Russia) and 662 km from Zamin – Uud, the southern border with China via Trans Siberian railway.
