Capital city of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar has a road network of 464 km, of which about 78 percent is paved, the remainder being mostly earth tracks within ger districts. Of the 50 bridges in Ulaanbaatar, almost 90 percent are of concrete construction. The paved road network has remained largely unchanged in length for two decades, during which time the vehicle fleet has more than doubled.
Inside Ulaanbaatar there are a number of different transport options, all suited to different time frames and budgets. The cheapest, but slowest of the public transport alternatives is the trolleybus. These cost a flat rate of MNT 300.
Microbuses (minivan with yellow billboards on their roofs) costs between MNT 300- 400. Fleet of 3000 taxis in addition to the public bus services are at your disposal in Ulaanbaatar. At night it would be probably be safest to take an official cab one firm easily recognizable as all its cabs are yellow. Taxi fare is MNT 500 per km. You can hire cars too. If you do, it is advisable not to do your own driving, rather hire one with a driver.
